Lahore (Web Desk): A violent mob lynched a man over blasphemy allegations in Nankana Sahib on Saturday.
According to reports, the mob stormed the police station where the man was detained for alleged blasphemy.
The mob bunt the man to death after dragging him outside of a police station on allegations of blasphemy.
The Station House Officer (SHO) and other police officials escaped the scene, trying to save their own lives.
In the videos surfacing on social media, scores of people can be seen chanting slogans and barging into a local police station.
Taking notice of the incident, Punjab Inspector-General (IG) Dr Usman Anwar suspended the SHO Warburton Feroze Bhatti and Nankana Sahib Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Nawaz Waraq for their failure in preventing the situation from turning violent.
In a statement on Twitter, the Punjab police said that strict departmental and legal action will be taken against those responsible for the incident and the perpetrators of negligence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and ordered an investigation.
He questioned as to why the police did not stop the violent mob?
The premier said that the rule of law should be ensured and that nobody should be allowed to influence the law.
PM Shehbaz said that maintaining law and order should be ensured as a first priority.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi condemned the incident, saying it was regrettable the way the charged mob attacked the blasphemy accused.
“Inhuman torture and killing the person, accused of blaspheming the Holy Quran in Nankana Sahib and attacking at the police station is regrettable and condemnable. — Pakistan Ulema Council, ” Hafiz Tahir Mehmood Asharfi wrote on Twitter.
