Islamabad (Web Desk): United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President-elect Volkan Bozkir has termed the Pakistan’s strategy to limit the spread of Covid-19 a “good example” for the world to follow.

“Pakistan has been a good example for the world with its pandemic-related policies,” said Bozkir while addressing a news conference alongwith Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Monday. “The figures show that Pakistan has done better than other countries in the world and I am happy to observe it with my own eyes,” he added.

The UN top official also expressed his condolences over the deaths of Pakistanis from the novel coronavirus and wished those who are currently infected a swift recovery.

The National Command and Control Centre (NCOC) has warned that the country may witness another spike in Covid-19 cases if Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ignored during Muharram, Radio Pakistan reported.

During a meeting of the NCOC, Minister for Religious Affairs Nurul Haq Qadri said "comprehensive protocols and health guidelines" were being laid out for Muharram processions in consultations with the ulema.

On Monday, the Punjab government announced to lift all restrictions ending the smart lockdown, imposed to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (Covid-19), across the province.
“With the exception of wedding halls, all business centres have been opened from today (Monday),” provincial health secretary said. “Religious gatherings will be subject to the permission of the concerned administration and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs),” he added.

However, the official warned that the danger has not been averted yet and requested the people to remain cautious.

The total number of recovered COVID-19 patients in Pakistan reached 260,764 on Monday after another 516 virus recoveries were reported during the last 24 hours.
