Karachi (Web Desk): The 42nd death anniversary of famous playback singer Ahmed Rushdi was observed on Friday.
Born on the 24th of April, 1934, in the storied city of Hyderabad Deccan, Rushdi came of age in a world in transition.
Following the partition, his family migrated to the newly formed Pakistan, where fate would lead him to become the voice behind generations of silver screen dreams.
With an unmatched flair, he recorded an astonishing repertoire of nearly 5,000 songs for 583 films—delivered in a tapestry of languages including Urdu, English, Punjabi, Bengali, Sindhi, and Gujarati—making him the most prolific playback singer in the annals of Pakistani cinema.
His melodies, vibrant and mournful alike, became the emotional compass of an era. Long after his voice fell silent, its echoes still stir through the streets and radios of the nation.
In 2003, the state recognized his monumental contribution by awarding him the Sitara-e-Imtiaz, a mark of honor bestowed posthumously, though his true reward lives in the hearts of listeners.
