Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Wednesday sent out a convoy of 20 trucks filled with relief items to Punjab, where the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) will oversee their distribution.
The consignment, dispatched from NDMA’s warehouse in Islamabad on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, carried heaters, folding beds, mattresses, and quilts.
This effort comes shortly after September 9, when NDMA had earlier transported 10 trucks stocked with blankets and water cans, which were also handed over to PDMA Punjab for further allocation.
With the latest delivery, the total quantity of assistance extended to Punjab has climbed to 1,660 tons. The relief goods so far have included tents, blankets, mosquito nets, quilts, folding beds, water cans, water filtration plants, and 17 boats.
The NDMA highlighted that it continues to work in close coordination with both civilian and military organizations and is actively monitoring the relief activities to guarantee prompt and efficient aid for communities in need.
The flood situation in several districts of South Punjab has reached alarming levels.
According to the PDMA, more than 2.1 million individuals have so far been shifted to safe places across Punjab, with 80,000 still taking shelter in 488 relief camps.
Nearly 1.95 million acres of farmland in South Punjab have been submerged, posing fears of large-scale economic damage.
