Islamabad (Web Desk): World Science Day for Peace and Development is being observed today, (Monday) across the globe, including in Pakistan.

This year’s theme, “Trust, Transformation, and Tomorrow: The Science We Need for 2050,” focuses on the crucial role science plays in shaping a sustainable and progressive future.

The day emphasizes the need to involve the public in conversations about emerging scientific issues and highlights the relevance of science in everyday life.

Proclaimed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2001, World Science Day for Peace and Development is celebrated annually on November 10.

The observance was created to raise awareness about the importance of science in promoting peaceful and sustainable societies, while encouraging a closer connection between scientific developments and the lives of people everywhere.

Since its inception, the day has drawn attention to critical global challenges—from climate change to sustainable development, from advances in healthcare to the promotion of inclusive education.

UNESCO and its partners use the occasion to advocate for responsible scientific practices, call for greater funding and support for research, and encourage educational initiatives that foster interest in STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

World Science Day also encourages collaboration among scientists, educators, policymakers, and communities to build a society that is informed by science and prepared to address pressing issues such as environmental crises, public health emergencies, and rapid technological changes.

By highlighting these concerns, the day empowers communities, especially young people, equipping them with knowledge and tools to participate in meaningful solutions that will shape their future.
