Sardar Saleem Haider Khan takes oath as Punjab governor

Lahore (Web Desk): Sardar Saleem Haider Khan took oath as Governor Punjab on Friday.

Chief Justice Lahore High Court (LHC) Malik Shahzad Ahmad Khan administered the oath to the newly appointed governor in a ceremony at Governor House Lahore.

Earlier, the swearing-in ceremony of Sardar Saleem as Punjab governor, scheduled for May 5, had been postponed till May 7, “due to inevitable reasons”.

On May 4, President Asif Ali Zardari accorded his approval to the appointment of Governors for Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan provinces.

According to a press release issued by the President Secretariat release, Sardar Slaeem Haider Khan had been appointed as Governor Punjab, Faisal Karim Kundi as Governor KP and Jaffar Khan Mandokhel as Governor Balochistan.

The president approved the appointments under Article 101 (1) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Sardar Saleem Haider belongs to Punjab’s Attock district and he also served as former federal minister and premier’s special assistant for overseas Pakistanis.

Sardar Saleem is also the President of PPP Rawalpindi Division. Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has also been Special Assistant for Overseas Pakistanis during former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.

Moreover, Sardar Saleem is also the president of Pakistan Peoples Party's (PPP) Rawalpindi division.
