Rawalpindi (Web Desk/Agencies): The 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, is being observed today (Tuesday).
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have paid glowing tributes to Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed on his 53rd martyrdom anniversary.
In his message, the President said Sowar Muhammad Hussain displayed unparalleled courage and bravery in the 1971 war.
“The entire nation acknowledges the sacrifices of its martyrs and will never forget them,” the president said.
In his message, PM Shehbaz said Sowar Muhammad Hussain demonstrated unparalleled bravery and courage during the 1971 war and played a key role in destroying sixteen enemy tanks using anti-tank guns while identifying enemy positions.
The premier said that said the entire nation takes pride in its martyrs and their families, and will never forget the sacrifices of martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of the country.

The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), the Service Chiefs, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly observe the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, with profound reverence and gratitude.
“On this day in 1971, during the Indo-Pak War at the Zafarwal-Shakargarh Sector, Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed displayed unparalleled courage and extraordinary devotion to duty. By identifying enemy tanks and directing the crew of recoilless rifles, he contributed to the destruction of 16 enemy tanks. During this valiant act, he was struck in the chest by enemy machine-gun fire and embraced the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” said an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) news release on Tuesday.
The anniversary of Sowar Muhammad Hussain Shaheed stands as an enduring testament to the unwavering commitment and supreme sacrifices of the Armed Forces of Pakistan in safeguarding the sovereignty and dignity of the motherland.
“Let us honor and draw inspiration from the sacrifices of our national heroes, whose bravery and devotion to the nation remain an eternal source of pride. The entire nation pays homage to its gallant sons who laid down their lives in the defense of Pakistan,” the ISPR added.
Born on June 18, 1949, in Gujjar Khan, Rawalpindi, Sowar Muhammad Hussain holds the distinction of being the first foot soldier of the Pakistan Army to be posthumously awarded the Nishan-e-Haider, the country's highest military honor.
He joined Pakistan Army at the age of just 17 years in September, 1966, initially serving as a driver.
During 1971 war, he took an active part in every battle and spotted the enemy tanks close to a minefield near the village Harar Khurd.
Despite his non-combat role, Sawar Muhammad Hussain displayed extraordinary courage during the war, playing an active role in supporting Pakistani troops.
Under intense enemy fire, including shelling and tank attacks, he fearlessly delivered crucial ammunition to the frontlines.
During the battle, he received a burst of machine-gun fire in the chest and embraced martyrdom on this day in 1971.
In recognition of his valour, his village, Dhok Pir Bakhsh, was renamed Dhok Muhammad Hussain Janjua, ensuring that his legacy of selfless sacrifice would be forever honoured.
