Tehran (Web Desk): Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed dedication to the peaceful use of nuclear technology, asserting that the country is not pursuing conflict but will not back down on its nuclear accomplishments.
Speaking at a ceremony on National Nuclear Technology Day, Pezeshkian emphasized that Iran stands firm against any external pressure or threats, stating, "The more they threaten, the stronger we become."
He made it clear that while Iran does not seek war, it will defend itself against any aggression, relying on the expertise and strength of its people to safeguard the nation.
This statement comes amidst escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly after US President Donald Trump issued stark warnings of military action against Iran unless the country engages in talks with the US.
On Monday, Trump repeated his threat, claiming that failure to negotiate would place Iran in significant danger.
Earlier in March, Trump had sent a letter to Iran seeking direct negotiations, but Tehran responded by rejecting direct talks, criticizing Washington's contradictory approach while expressing willingness for indirect discussions about its peaceful nuclear program.
Pezeshkian also rejected accusations from the West that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, pointing to the clear stance of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has publicly declared that Iran is not after atomic bombs.
He further clarified that Khamenei opposes direct talks with the US, citing the longstanding animosity directed toward Iran by U.S. officials.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian president participated in a ceremony unveiling the latest advancements made by the country's scientists in nuclear technology.
Mohammad Eslami, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, highlighted these new developments as vital achievements in the nuclear fuel cycle, healthcare, and industrial sectors, which contribute significantly to the well-being of the Iranian population.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry expressed its commitment to protecting country’s nuclear rights and achievements.
Esmaeil Baqaei, the ministry’s spokesperson, emphasized that safeguarding the nation’s nuclear progress is a national responsibility.
He said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs would continue to leverage all available resources to defend Iran’s nuclear interests on the global stage.
