Islamabad (Staff Report/Agencies): United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on early Friday reached Pakistan to express solidarity with flood victims.

Upon his arrival, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar received the UN chief at the airport.

During his two-day visit, Guterres will travel to areas most impacted by climate catastrophe. He will also have meetings with Pakistani leadership.

“I have arrived in Pakistan to express my deep solidarity with the Pakistani people after the devastating floods here,” Guterres said in a tweet and added, “I appeal for massive support from the international community as Pakistan responds to this climate catastrophe.”

More than 1,300 people have died with millions being compelled to live under open skies and tents as monsoon rains wreaked havoc across the country.
