Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled an ambitious initiative to strengthen small industries throughout the province.
Under this programme, industrial hubs will be created in each district, designed according to the unique production capabilities, skills, and requirements of the local communities.
An 11-member Punjab Economic Transformation Committee, has been constituted to steer the project.
The committee will be chaired by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, while the provincial Finance Secretary will serve as its secretary.
According to sources, the committee has been tasked with identifying industrial and economic opportunities in districts throughout Punjab.
It will determine priority sectors for the development of industrial clusters and prepare both short-term and long-term development strategies.
The body will also engage with the private sector and other stakeholders to formulate practical plans for economic expansion.
Among its additional responsibilities are developing a skilled workforce tailored to the needs of relevant industries, integrating locally manufactured products into global value chains, and building a sustainable economic ecosystem within the province.
The Economic Transformation Committee will also work on establishing a sustainable framework for economic growth.
Proposals under consideration include developing dairy products in Sahiwal, IT software and a garment city along with meat and leather industries in Lahore, technical textiles, a furniture city, and dairy processing in Faisalabad.
Meanwhile, surgical and sports goods are being proposed for Gujranwala, while fan manufacturing, rice exports, and appliances have been suggested for Gujrat.
The committee’s overall objective is to stimulate industrial development, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the global market presence of products manufactured in Punjab.
