Islamabad (Web Desk): The federal government has taken a major step towards digital transformation by officially announcing that the auction of 5G spectrum in Pakistan will begin tomorrow.
Federal IT Minister Shiza Fatima, Information Minister Atta Tarar, and PTA Chairman Major General (R) Hafeez Ur Rehman briefed the media on the details of the project.
Minister Shiza Fatima said that this will be the largest and most transparent spectrum auction in Pakistan’s history. She noted that since 1987, the country has been operating on only 274 MHz of spectrum, but now 600 MHz will be auctioned simultaneously. The auction process will be conducted via live software, ensuring full transparency and leaving no room for doubt.
PTA Chairman Hafeez Ur Rehman stated that all major telecom companies participated in a mock auction (training auction) and expressed full confidence in the software’s performance. Companies have also hired their own consultants to assist them during the auction process.
The government reassured the public that the arrival of 5G will not increase mobile package prices. PTA will closely monitor telecom companies to ensure there are no unjustified price hikes.
Experts say that the introduction of 5G will significantly increase internet speed and bring transformative changes to sectors like freelancing, e-health, and online education. The government’s main goal is not just revenue collection, but to improve connectivity nationwide and promote the digital economy.
