Gilgit (Web Desk): A strong possibility has emerged for the formation of a coalition government between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Gilgit-Baltistan following the general elections in the region.
According to the results, the PPP has emerged as the largest political party, which has intensified political negotiations for the formation of the new government.
Sources say the expected alliance between the two parties would follow a model similar to the previous PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement) coalition at the federal level, with a power-sharing formula reportedly agreed upon.
Under the proposed arrangement, the PPP is expected to receive 60 percent of the ministries, while the PML-N would be allocated 40 percent, reflecting PPP’s position as the leading party in the region.
It is also likely that the chief minister’s position will go to the PPP, while the PML-N may be given key ministries along with the offices of Speaker or Governor, though final consultations are still ongoing.
Leadership of both parties has expressed commitment to political stability in Gilgit-Baltistan, agreeing to work together and form a government at the earliest.
