New York (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has urged the international community to strengthen collaboration among law enforcement agencies to effectively combat the escalating dangers posed by transnational crime and terrorism, stressing that modern security threats cannot be addressed by any nation in isolation.
Speaking at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in New York, Naqvi welcomed interior ministers, police chiefs and senior delegates from across the world, describing the summit as a valuable forum for enhancing global cooperation in the field of security.
He said countries today face a wide spectrum of cross-border challenges, including terrorism, organised crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking and money laundering. According to him, these threats extend beyond geographical boundaries and affect every nation alike, making a coordinated international response indispensable.
“No country is immune to these challenges, and no nation can address them on its own,” Naqvi said, adding that stronger international collaboration has become increasingly essential in the face of evolving security risks.
The interior minister called on governments to reinforce cooperation through greater mutual trust, prompt intelligence sharing and continued support among law enforcement institutions. He emphasised that closer partnerships are vital for improving the global capacity to confront increasingly complex criminal organisations.
Drawing attention to the rapid advancement of technology, Naqvi warned that criminal networks are taking advantage of emerging digital tools to expand their activities. He stressed that governments and policing agencies must respond by adopting cutting-edge technologies while simultaneously investing in the training and professional development of their personnel.
He said that equipping officers with modern skills and embracing innovation would significantly strengthen the ability of law enforcement agencies to deal with present-day security threats more effectively.
The interior minister further observed that the summit had assembled experienced policing leaders from around the world, each bringing valuable expertise and practical knowledge. He urged participants to exchange experiences, learn from one another’s achievements and explore fresh opportunities for international collaboration.
Describing the UN as an exceptional platform for promoting global cooperation, the minister thanked UN Police Adviser Faisal Shakar for facilitating the gathering and creating an opportunity for police leaders and counterparts from different countries to engage in meaningful dialogue.
Naqvi said that the summit reflected the shared commitment of participating nations to make their societies safer, safeguard their citizens and reinforce peace and security worldwide.
