Islamabad (Web Desk): The International Anti-Corruption Day is being observed today (Monday) across the globe including Pakistan.

This year the theme of the day is "Uniting with Youth against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow's Integrity" which focuses on involving youth in anti-corruption efforts.

In this connection, walks, rallies and special ceremonies have been in different parts of the country.

In their separate messages on the occasion of international Anti-Corruption Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated government's firm commitment to root out menace of corruption at every level.

They said the day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility of all nations to fight corruption, promote transparency, and uphold accountability.

President Asif Ali Zardari said corruption undermines public trust, drains vital resources, and hampers socio-economic development.

“Today, Pakistan reaffirms its commitment to eradicate corruption by enforcing strict accountability measures and promoting transparency in governance,” the president said.

In his message, the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that corruption is a corrosive element that undermines economic development and destroys the social fabric of societies.

“Our younger generation deserves a future where they can thrive free from corruption,” the premier said.

PM Shehbaz urged all Pakistanis to play their role in the quest for a corruption-free future and reaffirmed resolve to build a Pakistan where public resources are utilized efficiently for the welfare of the people.

It is pertinent to mention that in 2003, the United Nations adopted the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) - the initial move in the fight against corruption. It was an agreement endorsed by the UN member nations who united to work collaboratively in combating corruption and upholding law and order.

The agreement was executed on December 9 and took effect on December 14.
