Islamabad (Web Desk): In a significant move against online fraud and electronic scams, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has processed the blocking of 13,185 fraudulent URLs.
The action was initiated following numerous public complaints and reports of cyber fraud received through various social media platforms.
According to a report issued by PTA, after identifying the suspicious links, the authority contacted several major social media companies, including Facebook, YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and others.
These platforms responded swiftly to PTA’s requests, resulting in the blocking of approximately 98.76% of the reported URLs.
*Facebook blocked 1,246 out of 1,357 reported links, achieving a 91.82% response rate.
*YouTube took action against 99 out of 122 URLs, with a blocking rate of 81.15%.
*Instagram blocked 78 out of 82 reported URLs, showing a 95.12% compliance rate.
PTA stated that the purpose of this crackdown is to protect citizens from online scams, phishing schemes, and financial fraud that continue to emerge across digital platforms.
The report further clarified that legal action against individuals involved in such fraudulent online activities falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Cyber Crime Coordination Authority (NCCIA).
PTA has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online content or fraudulent activity so timely action can be taken.
