Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday handed over 50 electric vehicles to the Islamabad Police to promote modern, safe and environment-friendly policing in the federal capital.
During a ceremony held in Islamabad, the premier handed over the vehicle keys to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Inspector General (IG) of Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.
Addressing the ceremony, PM Shehbaz said the government’s primary responsibility was to safeguard citizens, their lives and their property.
He said every possible facility and resource was being made available to the Islamabad Police to strengthen its capacity and bring policing in the capital in line with modern requirements.
The prime minister praised Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi for his role in upgrading the Islamabad Police and said the force should emerge as a model that could be followed by police departments in other parts of the country.
He said the police in the capital were being equipped with advanced technology, modern equipment and other essential resources to ensure a secure and peaceful environment for residents.
PM Shehbaz said that the introduction of electric vehicles was another step towards developing a greener policing system.
He noted that the increased use of modern technology would also enhance police efficiency and improve the services delivered to the public.
During the ceremony, Islamabad IG Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi briefed the prime minister on the newly formed Capital Patrol Force, which has been created to reinforce security and improve patrolling across the federal capital.
The IGP informed that the new force had been established in accordance with PM’s vision of making Islamabad a safe, smart and green city.
The Capital Patrol Force will have a total strength of 200 police personnel.
It was further informed that each patrol unit would include one male and one female police officer while motorcycle-riding officers would also be part of the force to enable quicker responses and ensure effective surveillance and patrolling in various areas.
PM Shehbaz was further informed that all personnel deployed with the Capital Patrol force would wear body cameras.
The initiative is aimed at promoting greater transparency, improving supervision and strengthening accountability within the policing system
The briefing also revealed that 50 electric vehicles had been allocated to the Capital Patrol force. As the vehicles run on electricity, their deployment is expected to substantially lower fuel expenditure while also helping reduce the environmental impact of police operations.
Officials informed the Prime Minister that the electric vehicles were expected to generate monthly fuel savings of around Rs34 million. They said the cost of each vehicle would be recovered through fuel savings in approximately 10.5 months.
The prime minister commended the Islamabad Police for embracing modern technology, moving towards green policing and taking measures to improve the security and protection of citizens.
He directed the authorities to undertake all necessary measures to further strengthen the modern policing framework and make it more efficient and effective.
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry and Minister of State Talal Chaudhry were also present at the ceremony.
