Islamabad (Web Desk): The Foreign Office (FO) on Friday said that the weapons left in Afghanistan during the United States (US) withdrawal have fallen into the hands of terrorists who are using these to attack Pakistan and its security agencies.

In her weekly briefing in Islamabad, FO spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that said this situation needs international attention and everyone should assume the responsibility that they have in this regard.

Responding to the queries of media persons in Islamabad today regarding the recent terrorist attack on military posts in Chitral, the FO spokesperson said that Pakistan has communicated its concerns about the latest incident to the interim Afghan authorities.

The FO spokesperson said she hopes that the interim Afghan government will fulfill its obligations and deny the use of its soil by the terrorists for perpetuating acts of terrorism against Pakistan.

"The Pakistan-Afghan border should be a border of peace, adding that the Torkham border was closed in view of security concerns," Baloch said.

She reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to eradicate the menace of terrorism.

The spokesperson said Pakistan and the US have a robust dialogue on multiple areas including on security and counter terrorism matters.

"We have been communicating with the US and other partners both inside and outside the region about Pakistan's security concerns.

She hoped our friends and partners will understand the security compulsions that Pakistan has in this region including the threat of terrorism and the security situation because of the difficult and aggressive posture from our eastern neighbour.

The statement comes two days after a large group of terrorists equipped with the latest weapons attacked two Pakistani military posts located closer to the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on September 6, 2023.
