Moscow (Web Desk): Russia has announced plans to launch a visa-free travel regime for citizens of China, Saudi Arabia, and Malaysia, as part of its broader strategy to boost tourism and strengthen bilateral relations with key Asian partners. The decision was made during a high-level meeting on tourism chaired by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.
According to an official government statement, the visa-free entry system will come into effect in the near future, allowing citizens of the three countries to visit Russia without undergoing the traditional visa process. Authorities said the move aims to make travel to Russia more convenient and to encourage cultural exchange, tourism, and business cooperation.
The announcement follows reciprocal steps from Moscow’s partners. China had earlier declared that starting September 15, Russian citizens would be allowed visa-free entry for one year, marking a significant step in enhancing people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Similarly, Russian officials had previously revealed that arrangements for visa-free travel with Saudi Arabia were nearing completion, with the initiative first announced in July 2025. The same applied to Malaysia, for which negotiations were in their final phase since March 2025.
Analysts believe this move reflects Russia’s growing focus on Asia’s tourism markets amid shifting global economic dynamics and Western sanctions. By simplifying travel procedures for friendly nations, Russia seeks to attract more tourists, boost foreign exchange inflows, and diversify its economic partnerships.
Once implemented, the visa-free system is expected to significantly increase tourist arrivals from these countries, as well as promote investment and cultural collaboration between Russia and its Asian partners.
