Islamabad (Staff Report): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) chairman Absar Alam has said that his organisation is receiving threatening phone calls.

While addressing a press conference on Monday, Absar Alam sought help from Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa to investigate the threats and hold to account those responsible for threatening Pemra employees.

“It’s becoming increasingly difficult for PEMRA to continue performing its duties in these conditions,” he said. “I request the prime minister, the chief justice of Pakistan, and the army chief to take notice of this situation and ensure that my team members and I are provided with adequate security,” Absar Alam added.

He also appealed to Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar to expedite the judicial process that has seen 333 out of 357 PEMRA notices challenged and stalled in the courts.
