Islamabad (Agencies): Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will soon launch short courses for working journalists, both of print and electronic media, facilitating them to further strengthen their professional skills in relevant disciplines.

Eminent journalists will be invited as visiting faculty members to run these courses, said AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui while speaking at a seminar ‘Mulaqat’ held in the federal capital.

He hoped that the short duration journalism courses will meet the professional needs of the working journalists. The university’s Department of Mass Communication has already drafted contents of these courses, which he hoped, could be introduced within a few months.

Dr Shahid Siddiqui said he attached high importance to media, which has now emerged as a most strong social institution to serve society in the field of education. AIOU is actively engaged in disseminating research-based knowledge to public and end-users through the support of journalists.

A special quota for the working journalists was fixed in the recent year at the level of M.Phil and PhD to accommodate working journalists.

The courses include Scrip writing, Post-Production, Videography, and documentary.
