Karachi (Web Desk): Contact was lost with a K2 Airways cargo flight travelling from Sharjah to Karachi, prompting the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) to launch a search and rescue operation.
According to the PAA, the Boeing 737 cargo aircraft disappeared from radar approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
Officials said the crew had reported a malfunction in the aircraft's navigation system shortly before communication was lost. Following the report, the Karachi Area Control Centre immediately provided technical guidance to assist the crew.
The authority said radar data showed the aircraft rapidly losing altitude and changing its course before all communication was severed.
A search and rescue operation has since been launched in the sea to locate the missing aircraft. The Rescue Coordination Centre has been activated, and multiple relevant agencies are jointly participating in the operation.
The PAA said five crew members were on board the K2 Airways cargo flight. Search efforts to locate the aircraft and its crew are ongoing, while officials said further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
