Faisalabad (Web Desk): Chairman Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) Shabbar Zaidi has said that the government has not imposed any new tax in the federal budget.

Addressing a ceremony in Faisalabad on Monday, the FBR chief said that there is the issue of corruption in sales tax and the officials are automating it.

Zaidi said that the system will be improved in consultation with the business community.

He said that the government is seriously considering steps to check smuggling, under-invoicing and abuse of Afghan transit trade agreement.

Shabar Zaidi said that these steps are important to help the local industry stand on its own feet.

“We have to go towards industrialisation to generate job opportunities for the people,” the FBR chairman asserted.

Shabbar Zaidi said that tax returns for the year 2018-19 can be filed by August 2.

He added that the government's assets declaration scheme received an encouraging response from across the country.
