Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Thursday distributed honorarium cards to mosque Imams from across the province, signaling the government’s renewed focus on supporting religious leaders.

Addressing the ceremony, she emphasized the indispensable role of Imams in guiding communities through both joyous occasions and moments of sorrow.

She acknowledged that religious leaders have not always received the recognition they deserve, but stressed that their support remains a top priority for her administration.

The Punjab announced that all Imams in Punjab would now receive a monthly honorarium of Rs25,000.

Describing the move as a small yet meaningful measure, she highlighted that payments would be made transparently and directly into the Imams’ Punjab Bank accounts starting at the end of February.

Maryam Nawaz also stressed the importance of a strong coordination between the government and religious figures in maintaining harmony within society.

She condemned those who exploit religion to create division, pointing out that such actions have disrupted peace and even targeted law enforcement officials.

The Punjab CM further denounced attacks on public property carried out in the name of religion, calling them acts of sedition that harm the social fabric.

She reiterated that it is the state’s responsibility to safeguard lives, maintain law and order, and ensure justice for victims, assuring that authorities would respond firmly to such offenses.

Highlighting the influence of Imams in public outreach, the Punjab CM encouraged them to help communicate government programs and initiatives to their communities.

She reaffirmed that their guidance and voice are essential in promoting unity, peace, and awareness across Punjab.
