Islamabad (Web Desk): After Pakistan stepped in diplomatically, the United States and Iran agreed to an immediate and wide-ranging ceasefire, leading Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to invite representatives from both sides to Islamabad on April 10 for further discussions aimed at reaching a lasting resolution to their disputes.
Taking to X, the prime minister shared that both countries had consented to halt hostilities across all regions, including Lebanon and other affected areas.
“With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon and elsewhere, EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY,” the prime minister wrote.
He also welcomed the development and conveyed his appreciation to the leadership of both nations, while formally inviting them for dialogue in Islamabad. “I warmly welcome the sagacious gesture and extend deepest gratitude to the leadership of both the countries and invite their delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10th April 2026, to further negotiate for a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes,” he added.
Prime Minister Shehbaz highlighted that both sides had shown considerable wisdom and maintained a constructive approach in working towards peace and stability in the region.
“We earnestly hope, that the ‘Islamabad Talks’ succeed in achieving sustainable peace and wish to share more good news in coming days,” PM Shehbaz added.
Prior to this, US President Donald Trump had declared a temporary pause in military operations against Iran, describing it as a mutual ceasefire arrangement. This announcement came shortly after a request made by Prime Minister Shehbaz.
“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the complete, immediate, and safe opening of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks,” Trump announced on is social media platform Truth Social.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz had appealed to President Trump to allow a two-week pause to create space for diplomatic efforts, while also urging Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz for the same duration as a goodwill measure.
