Gujrat (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the accelerated efforts to drain floodwater in Gujrat, stating that, by the grace of Almighty Allah, the situation is improving rapidly.
In an official statement, the Chief Minister said that Fawara Chowk has been completely cleared and assured residents that they will soon be relieved from the difficulties caused by flooding. “A two-foot drop in water level within just one day is a clear sign of the operation's success,” she added.
Maryam Nawaz appreciated the performance of all relevant departments and officials, commending their dedication and hard work in handling the crisis.
During a detailed briefing, officials informed the Chief Minister that efforts are underway at Lorai to divert the flow of floodwater, with sufficient manpower and machinery on standby to respond to any emergency.
Representatives from various departments — including WASA, the Irrigation Department, and the Communication & Works Department (C&W) — are actively present in the field. Eight executive engineers from WASA are currently engaged in the Gujrat operation. Drone cameras are being used to identify areas obstructing water flow, and the Irrigation Department is conducting a research-based study, which will be incorporated into future urban planning and disaster management strategies.
The briefing also highlighted ongoing efforts to formalize WASA as an independent institution in Gujrat, which is expected to provide long-term solutions to the city's drainage, sanitation, and sewerage issues.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz reiterated her government's commitment to utilizing all available resources to provide maximum relief to the public.
