Texas (Web Desk): American scientists have confirmed the discovery of a rare and unusual hybrid bird in the state of Texas, believed to be a cross between two different species — the Green Jay and the Blue Jay.
Biologists from the University of Texas at Austin documented this unique bird in a recent film. According to lead researcher Brian Stokes, climate change may be the reason these two distinct bird species came into contact and interbred. “We believe this hybrid emerged as a result of environmental shifts that brought the species closer together,” he explained.
Historically, the Green Jay — native to Central America — could barely reach southern Texas until the 1950s. On the other hand, the Blue Jay, common in eastern parts of the U.S., was rarely seen beyond Houston in the west. This made the chances of them meeting and breeding extremely rare.
However, over the years, both species have expanded their ranges — Green Jays moving north and Blue Jays moving west — making their interaction possible. The result is a rare hybrid bird that has intrigued scientists and may offer insights into how climate change affects wildlife behavior and biodiversity.
