Kuala Lumpur (Web Desk/Agencies): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed that his government was fully committed to fostering a conducive environment for businesses and simplifying procedures to promote ease of doing business in the country.
He said that the government was introducing reforms to encourage startups and early-stage investors by offering investment facilitation and improved access to infrastructure.
In a meeting with a delegation from the Malaysian business group Gobi Partners, headed by its Co-Founder and Chair Thomas G. Tsao, the prime minister stated that the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was working tirelessly to extend maximum support and incentives to foreign investors.
Highlighting the vast potential for expanding economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Malaysia, he noted that both countries were making consistent efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation.
PM Shehbaz appreciated the Pakistan-Malaysia Business and Investment Conference held a day earlier, where he and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim addressed participants to reinforce business-to-business connections.
Expressing gratitude for Gobi Partners’ trust in Pakistan’s startup sector, the Prime Minister emphasized that attracting both domestic and international investment to build a strong and sustainable startup ecosystem was among his top priorities.
He said that the digital economy—particularly areas such as financial technology, e-commerce, and IT services—formed a key pillar of Pakistan’s national growth strategy.
PM Shehbaz added that Pakistan welcomed global business groups and investors to explore its promising opportunities in the IT, technology, and artificial intelligence domains.
The Gobi Partners delegation conveyed a strong interest in collaborating in Pakistan’s fintech and e-commerce sectors.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and other senior government officials.
