Washington (Web Desk): The important role of the Arab Muslim community in the American elections is being discussed as presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump appear to have equal support among Arab Americans.

The Arab American Institute (AAI) released a nationwide poll of 500 Arab American registered voters that indicated support for Trump stood at 42%. For Harris, it was 41%.

Trump surpassed Harris 46% to 42% among those who indicated they were extremely likely to vote.

As per the survey, the community's support for Democrats—whom they have always supported—has decreased as a result of how the government has handled the Gaza conflict. Currently, 38% of Arab Americans are split equally between the two parties.

After the Biden Administration's support for Israel, 100,000 voters in Michigan had declared themselves uncommitted in the Democratic primary election.

Experts say that Trump may try to win the support of these voters.

As per the AAI, only 63% of Arab Americans are enthusiastic about voting overall, while 55% of 18-29-year-olds are unenthusiastic about voting.

“Traditionally, Arab American voter turnout has consistently been in the 80% range. But this year, with only 63% of the community saying they are enthusiastic about voting, Arab American’s lack of excitement for voting in this presidential election is likely to impact voter turnout in November,” the AAI states.
