Islamabad (Web Desk): The talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban in Istanbul have reached an impasse, with no resolution achieved so far.
According to Pakistan's Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, the discussions remain stalled, although both sides continue to engage with the help of mediators.
The Information Minister, during a press briefing in Islamabad, expressed Pakistan's appreciation for the mediation efforts made by Qatar and Turkey. He acknowledged the crucial role of both countries in facilitating the dialogue but reiterated that progress had been slow, particularly on addressing the core issue of cross-border terrorism.
"Pakistan remains steadfast in its principled stance. The responsibility to control terrorism emanating from Afghan soil lies squarely with Afghanistan," the Information Minister emphasized. He stressed that the Afghan Taliban has failed to fully implement the terms of the Doha Agreement and has not made sufficient progress toward ensuring peace and security in the region.
The spokesperson further stated that Afghanistan’s inability to take effective action against terrorist groups operating within its borders is a major concern for Pakistan. "The Afghan government must fulfill its promises under the Doha Agreement, especially with regard to tackling terrorism," he said.
The Pakistani government has made it clear that it cannot compromise on the security of its citizens and will continue to demand that Afghanistan take necessary measures to prevent cross-border attacks. Despite the deadlock, Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to regional peace and stability, but only if Afghanistan honors its commitments to combat terrorism.
