Washington (Web Desk/Agencies): President Joe Biden reached out to former President Donald Trump on Wednesday to personally congratulate him on his victory in the 2024 presidential election, the White House announced.
According to a statement from the White House, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating a smooth and orderly transition of power, stressing the need for national unity.
As part of that effort, Biden extended an invitation to Trump for an in-person meeting at the White House to begin the transition process.
Trump’s campaign spokesperson, Steven Cheung, confirmed the call and stated that the meeting would take place soon.
"President Biden called President Trump to congratulate him on his win and invited him to the White House to ensure a seamless transition," Cheung said. "President Trump appreciates the call and looks forward to the upcoming discussion."
In addition to reaching out to Trump, Biden also spoke with Vice President Kamala Harris to acknowledge her historic candidacy and campaign, the White House noted.
This exchange marks an important moment as both leaders emphasize the importance of a peaceful handover of power.
With the inauguration scheduled for January 20, 2025, Biden’s call signals a commitment to the democratic process and the orderly transfer of authority between administrations.
