California (Web Desk): Google has announced significant improvements to its AI Overviews feature in its search engine, aiming to make results more transparent and informative for users.
According to a company blog post, Google is upgrading the underlying technology of Search AI Overviews so that users can clearly see the sources from which information is gathered.
The update will also allow users to directly visit the websites referenced in the summaries for more detailed information.
One of the major changes includes the integration of user-generated insights from online forums such as Reddit and other platforms, bringing real-world experiences and opinions into search results.
Google said the goal of this update is to provide users with information based on real experiences that people have already tested or discussed online. However, the company also emphasized the importance of verifying information from multiple sources, as with any online search.
In addition, the updated system will display related links and contextual information even when users do not explicitly search for them. For example, a search about urban green spaces may also show initiatives from different cities and related examples in a “further exploration” section.
Users will also be able to see which websites contributed to each part of a list or summary, improving transparency and trust in search results.
The company noted that earlier this year it also introduced Personalized Intelligence in Search, designed to tailor results based on user interests and preferences, making search experiences more relevant and customized.
