Tehran (Web Desk): Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting on Sunday in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, where both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and explored ways to deepen cooperation between the two neighbouring countries, according to Iranian media reports.
The discussions were centered on strengthening bilateral relations and widening collaboration in areas of shared political and regional interest.
In the wake of recent Iran–US tensions and hostilities, this visit marks Mohsin Naqvi’s significant trip to Iran, a development that diplomatic observers are describing as having exceptional strategic significance.
During the meeting, the interior minister handed over a confidential and highly sensitive letter addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader.
According to sources, the letter important message from Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Mohsin Naqvi reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance that it opposes any escalation or military confrontation in the region and strongly supports dialogue and diplomacy as the only viable means of resolving disputes.
The discussions also covered the ongoing indirect talks between Iran and the United States, with a focus on preventing further escalation and coordinating efforts to avoid any broader regional crisis.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi praised the constructive and sincere role played by Pakistan’s political and military leadership in promoting peace and stability in the region, acknowledging Islamabad’s continued efforts toward mediation and dialogue.
According to Iranian media reports, prior to his meeting with the foreign minister, Mohsin Naqvi also held a detailed meeting with Iran’s Interior Minister Sikandar Momeni.
During this meeting, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in border security management, intelligence sharing, and joint counterterrorism efforts.
Iranian media further noted that Mohsin Naqvi’s visit to Tehran is being viewed as a strong indication of deepening diplomatic and strategic engagement between Islamabad and Tehran, particularly at a time of heightened regional sensitivities.
Interior Minister Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday, where he was formally welcomed by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
The meeting was also attended by Pakistan’s recently appointed ambassador to Iran, Imran Ahmad Siddiqui.
The visit is being viewed as particularly significant given the current sensitivity surrounding diplomatic developments in the region.
Pakistan has reportedly been acting in a facilitating role for several months, as indirect negotiations between Washington and Tehran remain stalled in what diplomatic circles describe as a fragile impasse, despite both sides publicly maintaining support for dialogue and avoiding escalation.
According to Iran’s state-run news agency IRNA, which cited a source familiar with the matter, Mr Naqvi was carrying an “important message” from Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir intended for Mojtaba Khamenei.
The same source further stated that before travelling to Tehran, Mr Naqvi held detailed consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other senior government officials.
It was also stated that PM Shehbaz Sharif provided specific directions to the interior minister regarding the anticipated trajectory of the Iran–US dialogue process.
