Islamabad (Web Desk): Justice Mussarat Hilali took oath as Supreme Court (SC) judge on Friday.
Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial administered the oath to Justice Hilali in a simple but dignified ceremony.
Judges of the top court, Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP), Advocate General Islamabad, senior lawyers and law officers, officers of Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan and Federal Judicial Academy Islamabad, attended the ceremony.
The Registrar Supreme Court conducted the proceedings of the oath-taking ceremony. Officers and staff of the Supreme Court of Pakistan also attended the ceremony.
After Justice Hilali’s elevation, the number of top court judges had increased to 16 out of a total sanctioned strength of 17.
Justice Mussarat Hilali, who earlier served as the first woman chief justice of Peshawar High Court (PHC), will serve as the SC judge for a period of three years before her retirement.
She was also the first woman to become the CJ of any high court in the country.
Earlier in 2022, Justice Ayesha A Malik became the first woman judge to be elevated to the SC.
