Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to the public regarding an increase in fraudulent and spoofed UAN numbers making calls and sending messages.
According to PTA, scammers are impersonating representatives from the PTA, National Command and Control Center (NCCIC), banks, or mobile wallet services like EasyPaisa and JazzCash, in an attempt to steal personal and financial information from individuals.
In a statement, PTA explained that these fraudsters often threaten to block your SIM card, bank account, or mobile wallet, and try to extract sensitive information such as One-Time Passwords (OTPs), National Identity Card numbers, PIN codes, or biometric data via calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages.
The PTA further clarified that no government institution or bank ever requests personal or financial information via calls, messages, or links.
If you receive such fraudulent calls or messages, PTA urges you to immediately report them on the PTA CMS Complaint Portal. You can also report to the National Command and Control Center (NCCIC) through the link: https://complaint.nccia.gov.pk.
