Islamabad (Staff Report): President Dr. Arif Alvi has said that promotion of e-voting will ensure transparency in elections.
Addressing a ceremony in connection with National Voters Day in Islamabad on Friday, the president said use of electronic voting machines, digital identification and cameras will enhance transparency in the elections.
President Alvi urged the parliament, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the government to pay attention to these matters so that post-election controversy can be avoided.
The president lauded the ECP for introducing Result Management System in the last elections. He said the ECP's voter SMS service to get details of polling stations also proved quite helpful for voters.
Dr Arif Alvi said voting facility to overseas Pakistan is a positive step, which should be properly propagated in the media.
The president further said that free and fair elections provide basis to democracy and progress of a country. He said voters play the most important role in strengthening democratic values.
