Lahore (Staff Report): Former chief of army staff (COAS) retired Gen Raheel Sharif along with members of his family visited the mausoleum of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed (Nishan-i-Haider) and laid a wreath.

While Defence Day is being observed countrywide today, a ceremony was held at the tomb of martyred Major Shabbir Sharif in Lahore.

A smartly turned contingent of Frontier Corps paid tribute and laid floral wreath at the grave of martyred Major Shabbir Sharif.

It was on December 6, 1971, that he embraced martyrdom near Sulemanki Headworks when he was assigned the task of capturing the high bund (ground) overlooking the Gurmukh Khera and Beriwala villages in the Sulemanki sector.

It was on this day in 1965 when Indian forces crossed international border in the darkness of night to attack Pakistan but the nation foiled nefarious designs of the enemy.
