Kuala Lumpur (Web Desk): Pakistan and Malaysia have expressed the resolve to further enhance their collaboration in diverse fields including defence, agriculture, and modern technologies,
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Putrajaya.
Speaking to the media after the talks, PM Shehbaz described the engagement as highly constructive, noting that both countries share common views on almost all key matters.
He said Pakistan is eager to draw on Malaysia’s rich experience in information technology, artificial intelligence, and economic innovation to accelerate its own growth.
The prime minister expressed Pakistan’s intent to work jointly with Malaysia on ventures that would bring mutual progress and long-term benefits to both nations.
PM Shehbaz also welcomed Malaysia’s announcement to import meat worth $200 million from Pakistan, assuring that his government would ensure full compliance with all Malaysian standards and requirements.
Commenting on the Urdu translation of the Malaysian Minister’s book, Script, Shehbaz Sharif said the work serves as a blueprint for sustainable development rooted in compassion, respect, innovation, and mutual trust.
He lauded Anwar Ibrahim’s visionary leadership and said that Pakistan, a country blessed with abundant resources and talented youth, is creating avenues for young people to gain advanced knowledge and skills.
PM Shehbaz voiced confidence that Pakistan and Malaysia would forge a strong partnership for progress and prosperity.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, in his remarks, recalled the deep and historic ties between the two brotherly nations, emphasizing that economic collaboration has always been central to their relationship.
He said Malaysia has already increased the import of Pakistani rice and would also move forward with facilitating beef imports from Pakistan.
He noted that cooperation in technology and innovation offers great promise for both sides.
The Malaysian leader also commended Pakistan’s principled position on the Palestinian issue and said both countries view peace initiatives positively.
Meanwhile, the two sides also signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) in key areas including higher education, tourism, Halal certification, anti-corruption collaboration, and the promotion of small and medium enterprises.
Earlier, PM Shehbaz received an impressive guard of honour on Monday as he reached the Perdana Putra Complex, the official office of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, for high-level talks between the two countries.
PM Shehbaz, who is in Malaysia on a three-day official visit, was warmly greeted by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim upon his arrival at the site of the welcoming ceremony. The event began with the national anthems of Pakistan and Malaysia, as both leaders stood on the salute platform. The Pakistani premier later reviewed the guard of honour presented by the disciplined contingents of the Malaysian armed forces.
After the ceremony, the two leaders introduced members of their respective delegations before proceeding to hold a private meeting, followed by delegation-level discussions aimed at assessing bilateral relations and identifying fresh opportunities for cooperation across various fields.
Accompanying Prime Minister Shehbaz were Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.
PM Shehbaz had arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday night, where he was received at Bunga Raya International Airport by Malaysian Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Malaysia Syed Ahsan Raza Shah, and other diplomatic officials.
