New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has urged the international community to press India to resume complete compliance with Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, stated this while addressing a briefing of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in New York.
He noted that the treaty continues to remain valid and effective in accordance with the August 2025 decision delivered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
Iftikhar said that Pakistan firmly opposes the weponisation of water that could cut off this essential lifeline for lower riparian states, warning that such actions also pose risks to regional peace, security, and stability.
The Pakistani envoy stated that the country is facing what he described as “water terrorism” from India, accusing it of taking unilateral and unlawful steps to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.
He added that Pakistan maintains that natural resources should be utilized to advance economic progress and collective prosperity, rather than being exploited as instruments of coercion or confrontation.
