Islamabad (Web Desk): Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to uphold the values and objectives of the United Nations (UN) Charter by promoting respect for international law, honouring treaty commitments, and strengthening international collaboration for lasting peace and sustainable global development.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), DPM / FM Dar made these remarks during a meeting with María Fernanda Espinosa, Ecuador’s former foreign minister and a candidate for the office of the next UN Secretary-General, who called on him in Islamabad.
The meeting was highlighted in a statement issued by the Foreign Office spokesperson.
While welcoming Ms Espinosa, DPM Dar reiterated Pakistan’s firm support for a stronger multilateral system and stressed the importance of preserving the UN’s leading role in addressing international issues and maintaining global stability.
He also expressed optimism that the next UN Secretary-General would pursue long-awaited institutional reforms and take meaningful steps to ensure the implementation of the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) longstanding resolutions, particularly those related to Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir, describing their resolution as vital for achieving enduring peace in both the Middle East and South Asia.
