Three police personnel martyred in Karak checkpost attack

Karak (Web Desk): At least three police officers lost their lives in a gun attack on a police checkpoint in the Bahadur Khel area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa’s (KP) Karak district in the wee hours of Thursday.

According to the law enforcement sources, militants launched the assault by opening fire with heavy weaponry.

The attack led to a fierce exchange of gunfire that lasted for some time before the assailants managed to flee the scene.

Authorities quickly dispatched reinforcements, and emergency responders arrived to assist those affected. The bodies of the fallen officers, along with the wounded personnel, were rushed to a nearby hospital.

Later, Zulfiqar Hamid, the provincial police chief, visited the site to assess the situation and ordered a security operation to tackle threat.

Although no group has yet claimed responsibility for the assault, the region has seen a marked increase in militant attacks in recent months, with police forces frequently targeted in similar incidents.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, calling it a "cowardly act" and paying tribute to the slain officers.

He reaffirmed the government's resolve to prevent militants from destabilizing the region.

KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, expressed his condolences to the families of the officers, promising full state support to them and reiterating the government's commitment to fighting terrorism.
