Brussels (Web Desk): The European Union has imposed a $140 million fine on Elon Musk's social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), for violating online content laws.
According to the European Commission, X failed to take effective action against illegal and harmful content on its platform. Investigations into the company had been ongoing for two years, leading to the imposition of this fine.
The European Union clarified that the action was not aimed at any specific country or nation, but rather to enforce compliance with the Digital Services Act and ensure adherence to online regulations.
In response to the decision, Elon Musk defended the platform, emphasizing that "freedom of speech is the foundation of democracy." Meanwhile, U.S. officials have criticized the decision, claiming it reflects bias against American companies.
In contrast, TikTok was able to avoid potential penalties by making concessions and adjustments to its policies.
