Islamabad (Web Desk): The National Assembly (NA) on Wednesday adopted a resolution urging the federal government to tighten laws related to online misconduct, with particular focus on curbing unauthorized video recording, cyber harassment, and digital defamation.
Moved by Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar, the resolution stressed the urgent need for reinforcing the legal framework to ensure tougher penalties for such digital offenses.
It further underscored the importance of equipping law enforcement agencies with modern tools and training, particularly in the area of digital forensics, to enable them to handle cyber-related cases swiftly and effectively.
The resolution advocated for enhancing institutional capabilities so that digital crimes can be addressed more decisively.
Additionally, the House emphasized the necessity of launching focused awareness campaigns to educate citizens about their digital rights, the legal options available to them, and how to report incidents safely and effectively.
It also proposed the establishment of specialized desks in police stations where victims of online harassment can file complaints without hesitation or delay.
Another significant aspect of the resolution was its call for incorporating educational content into school and college curricula.
These modules would aim to raise awareness among students about online ethics, personal privacy, and the legal consequences of harassment in digital spaces.
