Lahore (Web Desk): The Punjab has extended the ban on the use of wheat in poultry feed across the province for another 30 days to ensure uninterrupted availability of wheat for human consumption.
According to a notification issued by the Home Department, the restriction will remain in effect until December 1, 2025.
The notification stated that wheat will be supplied exclusively to flour mills for the production of flour to maintain a steady supply of wheat, flour, and bread in the market.
The decision has been enforced under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, by the Punjab Home Secretary.
At present, feed mills in Punjab reportedly hold over 100,000 metric tons of wheat stock that was initially intended for poultry feed.
However, according to the report submitted by the Secretary of Price Control, this stock will now be redirected for human consumption to prevent any potential shortage of wheat and to ensure consistent supply of flour to the public.
The Home Department emphasized that the move aims to prioritize the use of wheat for flour production, stabilize flour prices across the country, and ensure the continuous availability of quality flour to consumers.
During the extended period, feed mills will not be permitted to use wheat in poultry feed.
