Lahore (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Wednesday affirmed her government’s commitment to constructing 500,000 houses for deserving individuals within the next five years.
Charing a meeting in Lahore to assess the progress of the 3-marla free plot scheme, the Punjab CM and the authorities concerned focused on providing plots to those in need, alongside offering financial aid to help them build their homes.
She also ordered the rehabilitation of 23 existing housing schemes developed by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) across 19 districts, emphasizing that necessary funds should be released without delay to expedite the process.
The CM reiterated that providing shelter to the homeless remains a priority, expressing her satisfaction with the progress made under the "Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar" initiative.
The Director General (DG) PHATA briefed the CM on the housing initiative’s current status, sharing that the program has achieved a 100% loan repayment rate.
He also reported that nearly 9,700 houses are close to completion across the province under this initiative.
With a clear focus on achieving this goal, the CM instructed PHATA authorities to ensure that all projects are completed by March.
