54th martyrdom anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram observed

Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Pakistan is paying glowing tribute to national hero Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on the occasion of his 54th martyrdom anniversary today (Friday).

Major Akram, who led a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment in the Hilli sector (East Pakistan) during the 1971 war, became a symbol of extraordinary bravery and determination.

On May 19, 1971, he firmly held his ground, preventing the opposing forces from gaining any battlefield advantage.

Months later, on December 3, he was ordered to move forward and attack strongly defended enemy positions.

Showing remarkable fearlessness, he destroyed three enemy tanks while advancing and continued to push forward with resolute courage even under fierce resistance.

He eventually sustained critical injuries and laid down his life on December 5, 1971. His sacrifice and steadfast commitment to duty remain an enduring testament to his heroism.

“Chief of Army Staff (COAS) & Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu and Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, on behalf of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, solemnly commemorate the 54th Shahadat anniversary of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider,” a statement by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

It added that the immortal heroism of Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed stands as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Pakistan’s Armed Forces. His sacrifice continues to inspire generations and reinforces the enduring commitment of our forces to safeguarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland.

“On this solemn day, the Armed Forces reaffirm their resolve to honour the legacy of all martyrs who laid down their lives for Pakistan. The nation remains eternally proud of its courageous sons, whose sacrifices are etched forever in our history,” the ISPR said.
