Islamabad (Web Desk): The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a weather alert for September 4 and 5, predicting rain and thunderstorms in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and several other areas of northern and upper Pakistan. Some locations may also receive isolated spells of heavy to exceptionally heavy rainfall.
The weather department said moist monsoon winds are still moving into the upper parts of the country, while a westerly weather system is expected to gain strength during the next two days.
According to the forecast, showers are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Jhelum, Chakwal, Talagang, Attock, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Hafizabad and Kasur.
The forecast also covers parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), upper Punjab, Potohar, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, where thunderstorms and rain are expected and isolated areas could experience heavy to very heavy downpours. In contrast, the southern regions of the country are likely to remain hot and humid.
The PMD has warned that intense rainfall could lead to water accumulation and urban flooding in vulnerable low-lying localities of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Lahore and Sialkot.
There is also a risk of sudden flooding in local streams and nullahs, while heavy rain may trigger landslides in mountainous areas.
