Islamabad (Web Desk): A moderate earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was recorded in various parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported.
The quake occurred at 8:59 PM near Patan, approximately 22 kilometers southeast of the area, at a depth of 31 kilometers. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been received.
Pakistan is situated at the convergence of three major tectonic plates — Arabian, Euro-Asian, and Indian — making it prone to frequent seismic activity. The complex fault lines create five seismic zones across the country, resulting in regular tectonic movements.
Earlier this week, residents of Karachi experienced tremors when a 3.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Malir, about seven kilometers northwest of the city center.
In September, PMD had also reported a stronger earthquake of magnitude 5.5 felt in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Chitral, Peshawar, and Swat.
Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity across the country and advise residents to stay alert.
