Washington / Madrid (Web Desk): Diplomatic tensions have surged between the United States (US) and Spain over potential military action against Iran, highlighting a growing rift between Washington and key European allies.
According to foreign media reports, Spain has categorically refused to allow its territory or joint military bases to be used for any operations against Iran.
The Spanish government emphasized that permitting such action would violate international law, making the use of its bases for offensive strikes impossible.
Madrid’s firm stance has reportedly disrupted Pentagon military plans, putting decades-long strategic relations between the two nations at risk.
In response to Spain’s refusal, US President Donald Trump expressed strong displeasure and sharply criticized Madrid, warning that failure to cooperate could lead the United States to terminate all trade relations with Spain. European observers described Trump’s remarks as “diplomatic bullying.”
Spain, however, has adopted an unexpectedly firm position. Spanish officials stated that they are fully capable of handling any potential economic sanctions from the US and reiterated that Washington must respect international law and bilateral agreements.
The government also underscored that national sovereignty will not be compromised under any circumstances.
