Parliamentary leaders get briefing on regional tensions, Pak-Afghan situation

Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday presided over a consultative session attended by leaders and representatives of parliamentary parties, where the prevailing circumstances were discussed with a focus on fostering cohesion and collective resolve at the national level.

The meeting underscored the imperative of standing united in view of current challenges.
Participants were taken into confidence through a closed-door briefing that covered the Pakistan-Afghanistan landscape, unfolding developments related to Iran, the evolving situation in the Middle East and the Gulf, as well as Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements in response to these regional dynamics.

Leaders of various political parties spoke candidly during the deliberations, sharing their assessments and viewpoints.

They lauded Pakistan’s ongoing diplomatic outreach for promoting stability in the region and called for these efforts to be further strengthened. In addition, they put forward proposals to help shape the country’s future course of action.

The meeting concluded with a unanimous pledge by all attendees to continue efforts aimed at rooting out terrorism from the country.

The participants also appreciated the prime minister’s decision to involve the entire political leadership in discussions concerning broader national interests and conveyed their thanks for his consultative initiative.

The key participants of the meeting included Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Deputy Chairman Senate Seyedal Khan, Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Deputy Speaker Ghulam Mustafa Shah, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Federal ministers included Ahsan Iqbal, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Attaullah Tarar, and Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry. Party and provincial leaders attending the meeting include Abdul Aleem Khan, Khalid Hussain Magsi, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Syed Mustafa Kamal, Faisal Sabzwari, and Chaudhry Salik Hussain.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is also joined by advisors and special assistants, including Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Rana Sanaullah Khan, and Talha Burki. Senators Sherry Rehman, Anwarul Haq Kakar, and Manzoor Ahmed Kakar are also participating.

Members of the National Assembly attending included Pervaiz Rashid, Hafiz Abdul Karim, Jan Muhammad, Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr Farooq Sattar, Amin ul Haq, and Pullain Baloch.
