Karachi (APP): Pakistan’s cotton production has reached 10.07 million bales this season, showing a growth of 3.6 per cent over the corresponding period of the last year.

This is second consecutive season of short crop (cotton) against average annual production of around 13 million bales the crop size remained around 10 million bales. However, higher production of around 900,000 bales over the last year was taken as an encouraging development.

According to Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association’s fortnightly report for the Feb 15 to March 1 period, phutti arrival dipped to 21,937 bales from 40,653 bales a year ago. Reports coming from cotton fields indicated that cotton picking in Sindh has come to an end while very small quantity of unpicked cotton was reported in Punjab. This means that the cotton production would not be much higher as expected earlier.
